The reception offered an opportunity to recognise people of Commonwealth heritage who have made a positive contribution to business, community and culture in the United Kingdom.

MDTi is a Wolverhampton based company that manufactures and commercialises products invented by NHS doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and patients.

3 of the products were invented at New Cross Hospital

The J-Hook, an alternative to a drip stand,which is lightweight, portable and easy to clean, can be hung from the curtain track. This was invented by John Edwards who was a staff nurse at the hospital.

The Femmax, a female health product was invented by Joan Thomas a Macmillan Gynae/Oncology Specialist Nurse, the Femmax is widely available on prescription and on Amazon.

The Ortho-Glide, lower leg excerciser, used after knee replacement operations was invented by a patient, Philip Hankin and is also available on Amazon.

A royalty from the sale of MDTi products is paid to the NHS.
